I undertook a full restoration of this William Gilkes bass from 1856.
The work involved re-shooting the back centre joint, repairing the scroll where it had been sawn into for an extension plus a neck graft and many cracks.
Amazingly , there was no sinkage to the front or even a soundpost crack.
