Martin Penning
fine stringed instrument maker

I was commissioned to make this bass by Sebastian Pennar, co-Priciple bassist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
It is modelled on his English bass which is attributed to William Booth I, Leeds circa 1830.
It is a beautiful model with relatively shallow ribs and ornamental outside linings.
We picked some stunning figured maple for the ribs and back.
As changing from this copy to the original bass is so similar Seb didn`t take long to get used to the new bass, in fact he took it to a recording the day after picking it up.
